I have seen demographic data used in many arenas in marketing, but I'm seeing more and more used in health care. Understanding what types of patients have disease courses that are similar and different can help doctors treat them better.

What's even more interesting is using that same data to set up health-related businesses. A company I work with called PatientsLikeMe uses demographic data learn more about how patients experience disease. People can also find others like them using a demographic search. The site is free too!

Great application for the use of demographic data.

To best delight our core customers, we will move from Mesa to Scottsdale/PV in early 2007. A Scottsdale location better suits us as over 50% of our customers reside in the general Scottsdale area whereas very few reside in the current proximity. A complaint of many of our customers is our current location since it is very far to travel and Mesa does not share the same demographics as does Scottsdale/PV.

The decision to move to Scottsdale, however, is not just based on demographics, but also on the success of other location-based specialty activity centers around the country.

Using active demographic comparators to comparable facilities throughout the United States helped us to determine where the strongest areas in the Southern California area would be to place our facility. Combining this research with local level research on demand for sports facilities we narrowed the options to four locations:

Suburban Locations: Irvine and Conejo Valley

Urban Locations: Long Beach and Inglewood
